GW University Band

GW Bands is the home of Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band, auditioned concert band ensembles in the George Washington University’s Corcoran School of the Arts & Design. Both ensembles rehearse on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The ensembles perform classic, contemporary and newly composed wind music with on-campus performances in the Fall and Spring.
 

Both Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band make up the University Band class. University Band class is a 1-credit, pass/fail class. However, students with a full academic load are allowed to take band at zero credits with an $85 fee. Course credit for MUS 1083 does appear on your transcript and counts towards the 120 credits required for completion of an undergraduate degree, however the course does not satisfy any general education requirements (Arts credit for the Columbian College, for example) for non-Music majors or minors. 3 credits of MUS 1083 in 3 semesters can be used to fulfill requirements for a Music major or minor.

Membership in both groups is open to students from all schools and departments at GW and requires instructor approval via audition. Anyone who auditions for University Band is automatically welcomed into Symphonic Band; auditions are for seat placement and acceptance into Wind Ensemble. If accepted into Wind Ensemble, a student can choose to play in one or both ensembles. Auditions are held at the beginning of the Fall semester as well as at the beginning of the Spring semester and and on a case by case basis for anyone who joins throughout the year.
