Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
As an organization, GW Bands is open to all. However, we recognize the inequities that exist on this campus. As a result, we are committed to continuous growth and improvement to foster a community that is as accessible, inclusive, and equitable as possible. This means recognizing that diversity and equity are not a destination; rather, we must continuously work towards making this space accessible to all of our members, not just those that have this space readily available to them. We acknowledge that our responsibilities to equity and justice extend beyond our organization and we commit ourselves to learning about and serving the greater DC community.

To this end, the GW Bands Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee was established to place serious thought towards how to implement accessibility within the organization. The DEI Committee is an independent body of volunteer GW Bands members, led by an appointed DEI Chair, that holds membership accountable and ensures that Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will remain at the forefront of our organization. Their responsibilities include but are not limited to: advising the Corps regarding best practices for inclusivity, leading community-building activities, providing accountability for the Officer Corps, Staff, and Teaching Assistant, reevaluating the Constitution for equitable language and bylaws, sharing resources with membership and working with the GW Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement to ensure student safety and impartiality.
